Arterial Spin Labeled Perfusion MRI

چکیده
Perfusion refers to the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to tissues by means of blood flow and is one of the most fundamental physiological parameters. Disorders of perfusion also account for most of the leading causes of medical disability and mortality. While measurements of perfusion are of direct diagnostic value in vascular disorders, perfusion measurements also serve as biomarkers for a broader range of physiological and pathophysiological functions. A close coupling between cerebral blood flow and metabolism allows regional brain function to be assessed through measurements of cerebral perfusion and increased vascularity of neoplasms allows tumor perfusion to be used as a measure of tumor grade and to monitor the response to tumor therapy. Classical tissue perfusion is measured using a diffusible tracer that can exchange between the vascular compartment and tissue. This yields a perfusion measurement in units of milliliters of blood flow per gram of tissue per unit time (ml/g/ min). However, owing to the relative ease of inferring hemodynamic function from the passage of an intravascular tracer, the term “perfusion imaging” has also been applied to measurements of perfusionrelated parameters such as mean transit time and blood volume that can be related to perfusion through the Central Volume Principle. In the field of MRI, most people associate the concept of perfusion imaging with dynamic susceptibility contrast imaging using a relaxation contrast agent. However, there are also several methods for the measurement of classical Arterial Spin Labeled Perfusion MRI

Validation of diffuse correlation spectroscopy for muscle blood flow with concurrent arterial spin labeled perfusion MRI.
Calf blood flow was measured simultaneously in healthy human subjects (n = 7) during cuff inflation and deflation using near-infrared diffuse correlation spectroscopy (DCS) and arterial spin labeled perfusion MRI (ASL-MRI). The DCS and ASL-MRI data exhibited highly correlated absolute and relative dynamic flow responses in each individual (p < 0.001). Peak flow variations during hyperemia were ...
متن کاملSpectrally selective Arterial Spin Labeling Imaging For Breast Cancer Perfusion Study
INTRODUCTION Arterial spin labeled (ASL) MRI [1] is a non-invasive imaging method for measuring perfusion. With intrinsic tracers, the arterial spin-labeled blood, ASL-MRI can be repeatedly applied in seconds, offering great potential in breast cancer studies, especially in monitoring patients during treatment. There are only very limited studies of breast ASL-MRI [2]. One of the major limiting...
متن کاملPerfusion magnetic resonance imaging with continuous arterial spin labeling: methods and clinical applications in the central nervous system.
Several methods are now available for measuring cerebral perfusion and related hemodynamic parameters using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). One class of techniques utilizes electromagnetically labeled arterial blood water as a noninvasive diffusible tracer for blood flow measurements. The electromagnetically labeled tracer has a decay rate of T1, which is sufficiently long to allow perfusion ...
متن کاملAssessment of functional development in normal infant brain using arterial spin labeled perfusion MRI
Arterial spin labeled (ASL) perfusion MRI provides a noninvasive approach for longitudinal imaging of regional brain function in infants. In the present study, continuous ASL (CASL) perfusion MRI was carried out in normally developing 7- and 13-month-old infants while asleep without sedation. The 13-month infant group showed an increase (P<0.05) of relative CBF in frontal regions as compared to...
متن کاملThe value of arterial spin-labeled perfusion imaging in acute ischemic stroke: comparison with dynamic susceptibility contrast-enhanced MRI.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to evaluate the potential clinical value of arterial spin-labeled (ASL) perfusion MRI in acute ischemic stroke (AIS) through comparison with dynamic susceptibility contrast (DSC) enhanced perfusion MRI. METHODS Pseudocontinuous ASL with 3-dimensional background-suppressed gradient and spin echo readout was applied with DSC perfusion MRI on ...
متن کاملApplications of arterial spin labeled MRI in the brain.
Perfusion provides oxygen and nutrients to tissues and is closely tied to tissue function while disorders of perfusion are major sources of medical morbidity and mortality. It has been almost two decades since the use of arterial spin labeling (ASL) for noninvasive perfusion imaging was first reported. While initial ASL magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies focused primarily on technological...
